Silk scarves with men’s skirts: movement on the diagonal
For autumn 2026, the silk scarf has moved well beyond nostalgia. In European menswear it acts as a responsive line across a clearly built silhouette: close-knotted, loosely draped or allowed to fall. With a men’s skirt, that contrast becomes especially convincing—movement in silk above, composure in tailored cloth below.

1. A current signal, edited with restraint
Vogue identifies the printed foulard as a specific A/W 2026 menswear theme, while Celine’s official winter note describes theatrical knots and a confident, personal use of accessories. Nino Cappello translates the signal without turning it into costume. The skirt supplies construction; the scarf introduces response. The result feels new because the two elements do different jobs.
2. A diagonal against the vertical
Pleats, utility wraps and long columns all establish a firm downward line. A foulard cuts across it more softly. A compact side knot sharpens the shoulder and face; one longer tail connects neck, waist and hem. Keep to a single gesture. Two restless ends, broad lapels and a complex waistband will compete rather than compose.
3. Let material set the hierarchy
Silk twill has enough body for a neat knot without looking rigid. Lighter silk suits a longer moving tail; wool and cashmere sit closer to the neck and quieten the look. A restrained sheen is particularly effective against a matte skirt. If the lower half already carries pleats, pockets or a visible overlap, keep pattern small-scale or tonal.
4. Four hems, four responsibilities
At knee length, the tailored pleat benefits from a compact knot so leg and boot retain the lead. A below-knee utility wrap can take one longer diagonal. At upper calf, two narrow tails should frame rather than cover the waistband. The ankle-length black column allows the longest scarf, provided the jacket remains lean and the shoulder clean.
5. Confidence without costume
Neither a men’s skirt nor a silk scarf requires an apology—or a joke. Cut, material and gesture should read as a considered wardrobe. The man wears the combination; the combination does not wear him. That is Men Can: masculine in construction, open in thought, and resolved with Italian precision.
