The skirt is not an exception
A men’s skirt becomes assured not through one grand entrance, but through repetition. Once it does the job of a good pair of trousers — reliable, versatile and precisely cut — a statement becomes a natural part of modern menswear.

1. From exception to wardrobe
Prada’s latest Milan collection places the skirt at the centre as a universal garment: one clear form that can evolve without losing its identity. Vogue describes it as straightforward as a T-shirt; the house’s own show note speaks of freedom, function and a modern graphic silhouette. The Nino Cappello reading is direct. In a man’s wardrobe, too, a skirt can be clothing first — not an explanation.
2. Menswear already supplies the grammar
This is not an abstract proposition. Associated Press lists Thom Browne’s pleated men’s skirts as part of SS27 menswear’s lighter, newly proportioned tailoring. Wallpaper* places those skirts alongside poplin, seersucker and half-lined jackets; Browne himself ties them to his enduring idea of the grey suit. The point is not that a skirt sits outside menswear. It inherits its fabrics, its discipline and its usefulness.
3. Choose the hem before anything else
A dependable outfit begins at the hem. Knee length leaves room for sock and derby and comfortably supports a classic blazer. A few centimetres below the knee works with a chore jacket and substantial lace-up boots. A generous upper-calf midi needs a quiet top and a clearly defined waist. An ankle-length column calls for maximum restraint above. Fix the length first and there is less need to correct the look with accessories later.
4. Familiar pieces, chosen deliberately
The best partner is rarely the loudest item. A pale-blue poplin shirt, fine mock neck, knitted polo or black merino crew gives a skirt stability because its function is familiar. Shoes work the same way: derby, lace-up boot, loafer, clean ankle boot. Individuality comes from proportion, handle and colour — not from asking every element to compete for attention.
5. Confidence is made visible through use
Current reporting from Paris places more open gender codes inside the international menswear system, while also acknowledging that a man in a skirt can still meet resistance beyond fashion. Confidence does not mean pretending that reality has disappeared. It means dressing with precision, comfort and repeatability. Men Can is not costume: it is the freedom to use a masculinely constructed wardrobe on your own terms — Made in Italy and made for real life.
Sources and editorial context
The sources document the current European focus on the skirt as a versatile garment, men’s skirts within SS27 tailoring and the continuing opening of menswear. The four specific combinations are Nino Cappello’s editorial interpretation.

Make the skirt part of the wardrobe
Choose the length first, add familiar upper layers and wear the formula often enough that it no longer needs an explanation.
