Sky blue, grounded

1. A current blue, not a token accent

Published on 12 August, EL PAÍS's Copenhagen review identifies celeste as a defining colour on the SS27 runways, appearing in tailoring as well as coordinated shirts and ties. Marie Claire, meanwhile, saw turquoise recur in street style, often as a concentrated note within otherwise quiet looks. The range matters: blue now travels from airy sky to saturated turquoise. In clear wool, linen and compact cotton, it need not read as nautical, sporty or decorative; it becomes part of a grown-up menswear vocabulary.

2. Why brown gives blue authority

Blue creates distance; brown gives the look a body. Tobacco takes the sweetness out of celeste, espresso adds depth to midnight, and sand keeps powder blue dry and summery. Wallpaper* observed precisely this axis at Umit Benan: a foundation of brown, tan, beige and navy lifted by sky blue. At Giorgio Armani, desert earth tones met blues drawn from sea and sky. On a men's skirt, brown becomes the foundation—compact at the knee, rhythmic at midi length or calm as a maxi plane.

Sky blue gains strength when it no longer has to float: a clearly placed hem gives colour weight.

3. Colour follows construction

Vogue points to menswear's growing appetite for exact outfit and colour formulas, while brown has gained ground in blazer assortments and navy continues to build. Yet a formula only looks considered when the cut leads. The Milan wrap needs a generous overlap and one clean diagonal. Copenhagen's utility kilt ends at the knee, with a solid apron front, a side buckle and a single cargo pocket. Florence's controlled midi pleats finish at the upper calf; the Paris column falls to the ankle without a dividing seam. No culotte, no concealed trouser leg: colour can only be as calm as the silhouette beneath it.

4. From sock to hem: hold the temperature

Footwear and hosiery decide whether blue and brown converse or simply coexist. A tobacco wrap runs through brown ribbed socks into polished dark-brown boots. Navy socks and matte black lace-ups complete the technical line of the navy utility kilt. Sand pleats call for cocoa and suede; the espresso column stays urban with fine dark socks and slim side-zip boots. Metal is kept discreet and belts disappear into the waist wherever possible, leaving the eye to register the shift from cool upper layer to warm skirt.

5. Men Can: colour as a deliberate choice

AP sums up Milan SS27 through clean lines, lighter construction and luxurious materials. Prada's official note centres conscious choice and a precise, linear silhouette. Applying those signals to men's skirts in different lengths is our editorial inference, and it fits Nino Cappello's position exactly: confidence does not have to be dark or heavy. A man can wear celeste with a knee-length, midi or maxi skirt without defending masculinity. Men Can means choosing both with the same ease.
