1. Small in scale, decisive in effect
Vogue places the brooch among the defining signals of the SS27 men’s shows: small swinging jewels at Dolce & Gabbana, scarf treatments at Sacai and expressive floral forms at Dior Men. Wallpaper* reached the same conclusion after Florence, Milan and Paris, singling out Dior’s pieces. The point is not simply value or sparkle; it is placement. 2. Not a new permission, a recovered language
FashionUnited provides the longer cultural frame: significant jewellery in Europe was once closely associated with male power and rank, before nineteenth-century tailoring reduced the masculine accessory vocabulary to functional pieces. AP had already tracked jewellery moving from the red carpet into Milan’s core menswear for AW26, from discreet lapel pins to ornate brooches. Today’s freedom is the ability to choose anywhere along that spectrum.
A brooch need not explain the look. It simply marks it as intentional.
3. Why it works with a men’s skirt
A skirt creates one calm plane below the waist. The brooch answers with a small counterpoint above it, lifting the eye towards the shoulder and keeping jewellery, belt and pockets from competing.
