1. The bag has entered the menswear picture
On 8 September, GQ named the small structured handbag as one of fall’s visible menswear signals. Vogue has long recorded bags in actual street style around the men’s shows in Milan and Paris, while Prada and Louis Vuitton place them naturally inside current men’s collections. What feels new is less the object than its normality. For Nino Cappello, the bag is useful because it joins function to bearing: keys, phone and cards leave overfilled pockets, allowing the front of the skirt to remain a clean, uninterrupted plane.
2. Scale before statement
A knee-length pleated skirt needs only a compact top-handle bag whose lower edge stays above the hem. A utility wrap can support a horizontal east-west shape tucked beneath the arm; it quietly repeats the waistband without covering the front. A softer midi works with a modest tote on short handles. The long black column calls for the strictest object, a slim box bag scarcely larger than a book. The fuller the skirt, the more exact the bag should become. Generous volume at both levels turns composure into visual blur.
The bag does more than complete the look. It organises the gesture.
3. Hand, arm or short handle
How the bag is held changes the body language. A short handle leaves shoulder and jacket untouched and lets the hand make one clear downward gesture. Tucked under the arm, the bag joins the upper body—useful with technical clothing, provided it does not sit on the waist. A small tote stays near the leg and swings very little. Long crossbody straps are practical, but they draw a diagonal across lapel, waistband and pleats. These four formulas omit them. The bag remains accessible, the skirt visible and the posture upright.
4. Leather answers cloth
British Vogue identifies both elongated east-west lines and more relaxed everyday forms for A/W 2026. The material conversation is decisive: smooth oxblood leather sharpens charcoal wool; grained forest green grounds technical cotton twill; cognac warms sand and tobacco; black box calf reflects the formal control of a long wool column. Hardware stays small and purposeful. No monogram or ornament is needed here. Quality appears in the edge finish, handle attachment, lining and the bag’s ability to retain its silhouette when it is only partly filled.
5. Men Can: function has no gender
AP describes more open gender codes as part of fashion’s centre, not its margins. A bag does not become less beautiful on a woman, a queer person or a man; it can simply be read as a well-made object. The same is true of the skirt. Nino Cappello places masculine construction in the shoulder, waistband, cloth weight and assured stance without diminishing anyone else’s expression. Men Can means refusing to discard usefulness because of an old label. Once the proportion is understood, handbag and men’s skirt feel as natural together as coat and Derby.
Four bags, four clear jobs
